Red for Stop

Green for Go

Yellow for Slow down

I don’t understand why most drivers find it difficult to understand me. I stand in the middle of the road 24/7, 365 days in a year to ensure smooth movements in my kingdom. I am the ruler of the street. But I am a powerless king built to be mocked as a city decoration.

I signal yellow and cabs hurry to get to the other side.

I signal green and jeepneys stop to pick up passengers.

I signal red and buses ignore the intensity of the color.

My officers act blind at the sight of a powerful calling card or money clipped on someone’s license. Many are unpunished. People are killed.  Vehicles (literally) fly in flyovers. Crushed windshields sprinkle on highways like snow. Innocent lives are taken away. Poor animals like cats are flattened in the middle of the road.

I don’t know why taxes are still used to build ones like me on a place where no one knows how to follow.
